RUN KINDLY-RUN FEARLESSLY!
Dr. Sgt. Rex is more than just a Border Collie—he's my loyal companion, my trail guide, and the inspiration behind Rex Runs Kindly, Inc.. He holds no formal titles in medicine or the military, of course—but to me, he's earned both stripes. Rex has been my most trusted running partner through every season, every storm, and every steep, rocky scramble. Where I go, he goes—and together, we've run our way into a better life.
Running saved me. But running with Rex gave me the strength to stay saved. In my hardest moments—when addiction, doubt, and darkness clouded my mind—it was Rex who nudged me forward. Not with words, but with presence. With his eyes fixed ahead, his ears tuned to the wind, and his paws pattering beside me. When I felt weak, Rex made me feel capable. When I was afraid, Rex scouted the path ahead. On narrow trails with sharp drop-offs or icy slopes, he always slows down, carefully choosing the safest way for both of us. He's never in a rush—unless I am.
Rex doesn't care if it's pouring rain, snowing sideways, or 95 degrees—he just wants to run, to move, to be. He needs the run as much as I do. His spirit is restless and wild, just like mine once was. Running is his therapy too. And in that shared motion, stride for stride, we both find peace.
Rex Runs Kindly was born out of that bond. It's a nonprofit rooted in the belief that running heals—that movement is medicine. It's for people struggling like I once did, people who might not see a way out yet. Rex helped me find my way through. And now, he and I are determined to help others find theirs.
Rex reminds us all: No matter how rocky the trail, you're not alone. There's always a way forward. And it's okay to pause, catch your breath, and then keep moving—with kindness, purpose, and maybe even a wagging tail by your side.
